The Make Annual was a book published each year to wrap up the year, celebrating key project milestones, sharing insights into the architectural design process and going behind the scenes of studio life.
The design constraints for the Annual were for them to be the same size, use Make’s brand typeface and feature their red brand colour. With each edition we then took the opportunity to explore the latest papers innovations, use new typefaces, explore interesting print techniques and celebrate the uniqueness of each year’s work through design.

Annual 14
The cover features a photo of Make's project Rathbone Square, edited to show the day/night cycle of the project, wrapping around the book. In select projects, we used french folds to create sections that readers can literally tear apart to reveal the hidden depth of the design process.

Annual 15
This edition celebrates 15 years of Make, looking back at the past, present and future. ‘Past’ revisits 15 favourite built projects, ‘Present’ shows recently completed work, and ‘Future’ looks ahead to schemes that are on site or about to start.
The book is split into three sections, each printed on a different white paper to subtly set them apart. At the start of each chapter, a translucent red sheet reveals a cropped photo of each project. An integrated black folding jacket wraps the book, and photos of Makers from 15 years ago are scattered throughout.

Annual 16
The cover features a photo of the arches of Make’s Chadstone Link project, wrapped in a translucent dust jacket with neon red details.
This year’s edition follows a 24-hour cycle across Make’s three studios in London, Sydney and Hong Kong, with the content shifting through the day. Each chapter opens with a clock showing the time at each studio, and those times carry on in the page furniture throughout the book.
